FEEDING YOUR NEW PUP

How To Feed Your Pup

For the next 40 days, your pup will be eating approximately 1 pound of food a day. We do two feedings. We are asking you to buy this food from us so that your pup will be eating exactly what he/she ate here while they get used to your water, your cleaning agents, and you. Also, we hope you will see how easy it is and continue this way of feeding throughout your dog’s life.

You will be taking home, along with your pup, a little over a 40 day supply of food. For the morning, you will be taking home 4 blocks weighing 5 lbs each, (20 lbs) of OTB mix and in the evening 4 blocks weighing 5 lbs each (20 lbs) of the beef mix.

This is food so if you thaw a block, either a 4lb one or a 5lb one, it will not last either 8 or 10 days in your  refrigerator. You can either keep it frozen and use a very sharp implement to cut off either ? of the OTB mix or 1/10th of the beef mix block and then put it back in the freezer – or, you can thaw entirely by putting it in the refrigerator, and rebag into zip lock bags of ½ pound servings. For the OTB mix you will end up with 40 breakfasts and with the beef you will end up with 40 dinners. You will then take all the food you have rebagged and put it back in the freezer. You can refreeze for dogs. Feel free to take out from the freezer 3 days of breakfast and dinner. Always thaw in the refrigerator. The food will last 3 days in the fridge.

FEEDING INSTRUCTIONS FOR FIRST 40 DAYS

Morning: ½ lb (or 1 cup) of OTB’s Mix
TIP: Add some hot or cold water depending on the season and the temperature of the meat. Not too much. Sort of a stew consistency.

Evening: ½ lb ( or1 cup) of beef mix (NO BONE)
Feel free to add vegetables to the evening meal such as broccoli, kale, collard greens, etc. Your pup has had it all.

AFTER 30 DAYS… You will now begin to introduce new food. If you are switching to another brand of raw food, you will start adding this a little at a time to your pup’s existing food. Raw to raw is an easy transition. DO NOT SWITCH TO KIBBLE. You may think it is easier now and it might make you comfortable because you have done it before but you will run the high risk of issues in the future. If you get in touch with us because your dog is having health problems, the first thing I am going to ask is what you are feeding your dog. If you say dry kibble dog food, we WILL NOT BE ABLE TO HELP YOU. I will simply tell you to go back to the raw diet and see if that solves the issue.

Just as you would for an infant, introduce one new food at a time every few days or so. In this way, if your pup has a reaction, you will know what food does not agree with him/her.

As Your Pup Grows: You will be increasing the food. Eventually your
pup will eat about 2 pounds of protein along with vegetables, fruits and
other animal parts a day depending on his/her size and how much exercise they are getting. You want your pup on the thin side but not too thin. Make sure he/she has a waist. A pup/dog will be thinner on the raw food diet. A growing dog will eat more than a grown dog.
