WHY KIBBLE ISN’T ENOUGH

Why Kibble Isn't Enough

Dogs are mammals, just like us, and they need a wide variety of food as we do. That is one of the many problems with dog food. It is the same, day after day. Can you imagine eating the same processed food every day for the rest of your life? Then why feed it to your beloved pet? Back when wolves, who are nomads, were able to roam free, they used to cover more than a 1000 miles in their lifetime. Just think about all the different foods they must have eaten!

People often ask us if there is any other brand of raw or dried dog food we recommend. In the past, we have researched different brands and made recommendations only to discover at some point that the company was sold and the food cheapened. As for dried dog food … there is no good one. Period. The end. Have you ever tasted it? We have. It is salty beyond belief because that is the only way they can get the dogs to eat it, and it has a kind of cardboard taste. That is why most of them are filled with synthetic vitamins and minerals. There is no nutrition in the food part of it. It has been cooked out.

We will not recommend any dog food. They are all overly processed, do not have an  expiration date so you have no idea how long it has been sitting on the shelf and they are made with inferior ingredients to meet the corporation’s bottom line. A dog was not designed to eat over processed food put together by humans. They are not designed to eat grains but even those dog foods without grain still are over-processed with all of the nutrients cooked out of them.

The raw diet is attempting to repeat the wild. In the wild, they would eat any meat they could find (wolves mainly subsist on mice) and they graze on bushes and grasses, and grab any fruit they can. Feeding them dog food is equivalent to feeding your kids only processed food, nothing fresh. We know that most of you would not feed yourself or your kids only processed food. Dogs are mammals just like us. They need fresh food. Your leftovers are great too and cooked fresh food is also fine. Raw food has more nutrients and is what they were designed to eat, but if you feel strongly about cooking food for your dog, go ahead. It is far better than dog food.

As for raw … be careful out there. Now that it is enjoying a new popularity, and there is money to be made, lots of companies have popped up. All these companies share a common denominator: a perfect customer, one that can’t complain.

You are welcome to continue buying it from us. Many of our puppy families purchase freezers just for their dog’s food so they can buy a large supply. If you live close to the country and farms, you might try asking your local farmer if he’d be interested in making dog food from all the wonderful parts of the cow he throws away because people don’t eat it. Have him include green tripe, the lining of the cow’s stomach. Very stinky but like medicine for dogs.

If you are a healthy eater, please feel free to save your leftovers to feed to your dog at his/her next feeding. Home cooked food is fine for your dog. It is just that on a daily basis, raw food provides more nutrients. What is nice about feeding your dog your leftovers is, it bonds them to you. They smell it when it is cooking and then they get to share in the bounty just like wolves did around the campfire. This is most likely what drew wolves to us in the first place. In return, they protected us and became our hunting companions.
